“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to the Port of Oakland Asian Employees Association for awarding me one of Asian Employees Association Scholarships. I am confident that this scholarship will help me in my goal to further my education. I thank you for being an integral part of the process, and I enjoyed meeting and working with you. My grandparents, parents and I were extremely impressed with the generosity of the AEA by its monetary value of the scholarships awarded. It is organizations like the AEA and the incredulous efforts of people like yourself who will continue to give students the motivation to reach for the stars!” “Though the cost of attending a university increases, organizations like AEA make higher education a reality for many students. I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of your scholarship award, and I will work hard in order to prove myself worthy of your generous gift and your investment in my future. With your award money, I was able to buy myself a reliable computer that will last through my four years at Cal. I am proud to tell you that I have passed all my Advanced Placement exams for this school year, including a top score of 5 in Studio Art. This makes me an AP Scholar with Honor. Thanks to the AP program, I have saved one semester of study at Cal!” Grace
Morales “The scholarship has helped me greatly to finance the cost of my education and I truly can’t thank you enough for assisting in my academic endeavors. I just received my grades for the previous semester, my first here at UC Berkeley, and I received a cumulative GPA of 4.0. I am certain that my educational attainments could not be made possible without the support of people from my community, like the AEA, who believe in me. Thank you for helping me achieve my goal of earning a degree in psychology and/or business.” Maria Nayeli Cerpas “I am very grateful for the scholarship and assure you that the funds will be used towards my college education at the College of Natural Resources at UC Berkeley this fall. This summer I am taking Mandarin Chinese at Laney College in Oakland. I am quickly learning how to speak and write Chinese. I am also working part time and gaining valuable experience working on solar panels. Please contact me for any internships or employment opportunities which concern environmental topics. I would be greatly honored to assist the Port of Oakland with its environmental Concerns.” Deborah Brockett “I graduated from Oakland Technical High School in '97 and am currently a senior at Harvard University majoring in Computer Science. I expect to graduate with honors this coming June and plan to return to the Bay Area to work full-time as a Software Engineer. Some of my extracurricular activities at Harvard include being a teaching assistant for the Introductory Computer Science Course (CS50), volunteering as a counselor and teacher in a Chinatown Afterschool and ESL Program, rowing for the Freshmen Crew team as well as participating in intramural volleyball and basketball. I have held summer internships at the Harvard Robotics Lab, Opnet, and Microsoft.” Hoa Lu
